The Problem

1. Complexity for Beginners

  • Most DeFi dashboards are designed for advanced users with deep crypto knowledge.

  • Overwhelming interfaces with charts, metrics, and jargon that are hard for newcomers to understand.

  • Users often don’t know where to start after connecting a wallet.

2. Confusing Wallet Connections

  • Many platforms require multiple steps to connect or switch wallets..

  • No clear support for multiple blockchain networks (ETH, SOL, BTC, etc.) in a single flow

  • Beginners may find it intimidating to manage different wallet addresses.

3. Poor Educational Support

  • Most platforms assume users already know DeFi concepts.

  • No integrated help or guided onboarding to teach the basics.

  • Beginners often have to leave the platform to search for explanations elsewhere.

4. Fragmented Portfolio Tracking

  • Users need to connect multiple wallets across different blockchains (ETH, SOL, BTC, etc.), but most platforms handle this clumsily.

  • NFTs, tokens, and DeFi positions are often displayed in separate views, breaking portfolio continuity.

  • Difficulty monitoring cross-chain assets in real-time without jumping between tools.

The Solution

Beginner-Friendly Experience

Designed a clean, intuitive interface with plain-language labels instead of heavy crypto jargon, Provided contextual tooltips and “Learn More” popups for every major metric or feature.

Smooth Multi-Wallet & Multi-Chain Support

  • Unified connection flow for Ethereum, Solana, Bitcoin, and other supported chains.

  • Track multiple wallets in one place without switching dashboards.

  • “Track Other Wallets” option for non-signed-in users to view activity of any public address.

Integrated Learning Hub

  • Built-in glossary explaining crypto and DeFi terms in beginner-friendly language.

  • Video tutorials and blog-style learning content for self-paced education.

  • Concept explanations linked directly to related features (e.g., “What is Staking?” inside staking view).

Explore Section for Discovery

  • View trending tokens, NFTs, and collections across all supported chains in one place.

  • Sort and filter trends by market cap, trading volume, or recent performance.

  • Links directly to token or NFT detail pages with charts, holder data, and transaction history.

Design Process

To build a beginner-friendly DeFi dashboard that served both newcomers and experienced users, I designed across three core experiences: the portfolio dashboard, the explore section, and the learning hub. Each had its own focus and audience but worked together to make DeFi tracking, learning, and exploring tokens seamless.

1. What do the crypto people think?
I spoke with crypto beginners, active DeFi traders, and NFT collectors to understand how they currently track assets, discover new opportunities, and learn about DeFi, then i mapped out the friction in their current workflows ranging from constantly switching between platforms, to struggling with jargon-heavy interfaces, to missing profitable trends because data was scattered.

Insight: Many users were eager to explore DeFi but found existing tools overwhelming, while experienced users wanted a single dashboard that combined portfolio tracking, exploration, and learning without sacrificing depth.

2. The Supplier's Experience

From the research, we defined clear product goals:

  • Connect multiple wallets across different chains, and manage diverse portfolio

  • Provide clean, visual analytics of assets without technical overload

  • Enable simple actions like swaps, bridging etc easily from the dashboard

  • Offer plain-language explanations for every DeFi term and metric displayed

  • Track tokens, Nfts and also see trends in the market

This led to having different detailed sections for bridging, swaping and market explore and providing simple integration of this features in one section or the other

3. Information Architecture

We mapped out user flows for each role on the platform:

  • Portfolio – The user’s personal dashboard for tracking wallet, token, and NFT activity across multiple chains

  • Explore – A discovery hub for trending tokens and NFTs across all chains, with filtering and ranking options.

  • Swap – A -powered interface for seamless token exchanges without leaving the app.

  • Bridge – A cross-chain transfer tool for moving assets between supported blockchains.

  • Learn – A knowledge center with glossary terms, explainer videos, and blog-style articles to help users understand DeFi concepts.

Across all sections, we focused on reducing steps, using clear visual hierarchy, and creating an interface that feels accessible to first-time users while still offering depth for advanced ones.

To build a solution that truly met the needs of small retailers, we followed a user-centered design process, starting with understanding their day-to-day struggles and ending with a clean, functional digital experience.

1. Understanding the User

We began by speaking directly with shop owners, suppliers, and logistics partners to learn how restocking works in real life. We gathered pain points, mapped out current behaviors, and noted workarounds retailers were already using (like WhatsApp orders or bulk trips to major markets).

Insight: Many retailers were open to using digital tools but needed something very simple, mobile-friendly, and trustworthy.

2. Defining the Core Experience

From the research, we defined clear product goals:

  • Allow retailers to source multiple products in one place

  • Keep the interface simple and familiar

  • Reduce the stress of restocking

  • Help users feel confident in their suppliers

This led to key product features like the multi-vendor cart, smart reorder, supplier verification badges, and product availability indicators.

3. Information Architecture

We mapped out user flows for:

  • Browsing and searching for products

  • Building a cart with items from multiple suppliers

  • Placing orders and tracking delivery

  • Reordering previously purchased items

We prioritized reducing steps in the buyer journey and making the app intuitive for first-time users.

4. Wireframes & Prototyping

Using Figma, I created low-fidelity wireframes to map out core user flows , from wallet connection to portfolio tracking, exploring trending assets, and executing swaps or bridges.

Prototyped key interactions such as real-time price updates, and swap / bridge confirmations to ensure smooth navigation and intuitive layouts before moving into high-fidelity design.

5. Testing & Iteration

Since FolioFlow was a personal design exploration, I focused on self-directed testing and peer feedback. I walked through each user flow multiple times to spot inconsistencies, tested interactive prototypes for navigation clarity, and compared the experience against similar DeFi platforms to identify gaps. I also shared the design with a few peers familiar with crypto tools to gather quick, informal feedback, which led to refinements such as clearer asset labeling, improved hierarchy on the Portfolio dashboard, and a more intuitive filter system in the Explore section.

Outcome and Impact

The FolioFlow concept demonstrates how a beginner-friendly DeFi dashboard can merge clarity with depth. By combining a clean portfolio tracker, multi-chain wallet support, swaps, bridging, and a discovery-focused Explore section, the design solves common onboarding issues faced by crypto newcomers. If developed, FolioFlow could lower the learning curve for first-time DeFi users while still offering advanced tools for seasoned traders. The project also strengthened my skills in structuring complex financial data, designing intuitive filtering systems, and maintaining visual consistency across multiple features.
